Hi, Ron, Yes do tell them that their piano is 10% or so over weight. The average of 55 and 30 is 42 grams balance weight. I aim for 38 as being slightly over weight. You have 12 grams of Friction, fairly normal for the bass section. The main question you need to answer for yourself first is how many weights are in the keys. If there are five and higher then yes you very likely do have a geometry problem that should be addressed. In order to know for sure is to weigh the follow: up weight down weight strike weight wippen weight Front weight Key ration. These factors plugged into David Stanwood's formula will give you the strike ratio which should be in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Very likely this piano will be over that 6.0 value. Number of key weights and balance weight are the most telling in terms of ease of acquisition. After that you need a scale and other appurtenances to determine exactly how much something may be off. Most often the problem is the capstan location. This may be visible by the depression on the bottom of the key, but that is by far not the main determinate. The measurements are the final determinate. Let me know what you observe. Newton nhunt@jagat.com
