(Fwd) Salary survey information request

The position at UGA (I must say here that this is the 2nd position. There
are now 2 techs at UGA) was offered at a little over 27k, with the dept
having the ablility to contribute up to an additional 10% if budget allows.
But the only raises you will ever get there are whatever the state TEACHERS
increase is annually (though that figure had been 6% annually in recent
years, but offset this past year by increases in health insurance premiums
due in part to so many folks buying Viagra! -- no kidding).

The situation here at SC is a little more complex in that state salaries
are based in bands. The position was advertised at 24K (the low end of the
band) but the band allows for up to around 45K based on experience, years
of service, dept budget, etc., so it was actually a little more negotiable.
There is also a performance based bonus possibility of up to 10%, in
addition to state employee (not teachers) COL increases annually, which I
understand has been around the 2% range recently.

Both positions receive the full package of state benefits offerings, but
not tenure track benefits, because neither position is tenure-track.

This is how it was explained to me.
